I was born in Saratoga springs New York and was raised in Corinth, New York.  I lived in Corinth from 1962 until 1993. Growing up in downtown Palmer Avenue, I was able to see the D&Hs daily freight to the International Paper mill in Corinth throughout those years.

I was able to watch the train come into the mill for switching on most days.  This allowed me to see many freight cars from many different connecting railroads.  The local switch job symbol for train was SC-4, also known as the Palmer Falls job to the D&H crews.

At this same time in my life, my parents had a camper on the upper Hudson River near Hadley New York, this was right next to the Adirondack mainline. Many evenings were spent on the weekends listening to the ore train heading south, this was usually around midnight and on unusual occasions it would happen in daylight, The D&H symbol for this train was SC-5. Its route went from North Creek, New York to Saratoga Springs or Mechanicsville, New York. Sitting fireside and listening to the Alco diesels dynamic brakes whining as they rolled down the branch, through the Adirondack mountains.  What an awesome sound to hear on a warm sultry summer night.

My Fascination with railroads began when my father bought me an HO scale layout that he put on a 4 x 8 sheet of plywood. This was downstairs on Christmas morning in 1969 and I was seven years old.  From that point on I've been fascinated with railroads railroad functions, actions and operations. Over the past 45 years I've been collecting HO scale D&H engines, freight cars, timetables and books. Videos, magazines and anything D&H.
